A technical reference for radial shaft seals (oil seals / gufera): the DIN 3760 construction types and industry codes, lip materials with their temperature and surface-speed limits, the shaft and housing requirements, and a table of common standard dimensions. Reference only — there are no products or prices on this page.

Pick the construction type, choose the lip material for the temperature and speed, then verify the shaft and housing meet the operating limits. The dimension table lists common standard sizes in the d1 (shaft) × d2 (bore) × b (width) form.

Seal types

DIN 3760 construction forms with their closest industry trade code. The suffix logic: no suffix = with garter spring, S = with dust lip, O = springless, D = two main lips.

    Lowest friction; dry-running capable; needs a harder/smoother shaft + higher fitting force; carbon/graphite-filled variants. Standard lip 40–45 m/s; purpose-built high-speed PTFE designs reach much higher (design-dependent, not a single catalogue figure).

    Better heat/ozone resistance than NBR; H2S; turbo/compressor. Speed roughly NBR or slightly more (verify).

Values marked “approx.” are conservative and pending primary-source confirmation.

A secondary dust lip runs unlubricated and is limited to about 8 m/s regardless of material — above that, prefer a single-lip seal with a separate V-ring.

Operating limits

The shaft and housing requirements a correctly applied standard radial shaft seal assumes. Exceeding them is the root cause of most premature failures.
