    VMQ O-ring 25 × 2.5 mm (inner diameter 25 mm, cross-section 2.5 mm). Outer diameter 30 mm. Hardness 70 Sh A. Temperature range -60 °C to 200 °C. Standard ISO3601-25x2.5. Certifications: FDA, USP Class VI.

For a static seal of this size (outer diameter 30 mm), the ISO 3601-2 / Parker O-Ring Handbook ORD 5700 design guidance recommends a groove depth of about 1.95 mm and a groove width of about 3.25 mm for the 2.5 mm cross-section — roughly 22 % squeeze.

    Material properties

Silicone rubber (VMQ) has an outstanding temperature range from -60 °C to +200 °C (short-term +230 °C) and excellent biocompatibility. It offers superb resistance to ozone, UV radiation, water, polar solvents, dilute acids and most foods. Available grades with FDA, USP Class VI, BfR, EC 1935/2004 and 3A certification for food and pharmaceutical industries. Its weak mechanical strength is compensated by static applications — not suitable for dynamic sealing functions with high friction loads.

    Suitable for various industries

Silicone O-rings are used in the food industry (CIP/SIP systems, milking machines, packaging lines), medicine (inhalers, catheters, dialysis equipment), pharmaceuticals (fermenters, valves), cosmetics and high-temperature static sealing applications.

    Application notes

Ideal for food industry, pharmaceuticals and static high-temperature seals. Avoid dynamic applications with mineral oils — weak mechanical strength. For heavy steam prefer peroxide-cured EPDM.

Frequently asked questions about this O-ring

What is the temperature range of a VMQ O-ring?
This VMQ O-ring is rated for continuous service of roughly -60 to 200 °C. The material can withstand brief temperature peaks above this range, but near the limits service life drops significantly. If you operate at the edge of the range, ask our technician about a more suitable compound.
What media is VMQ resistant to?
VMQ is a silicone rubber with a very wide temperature range and excellent biocompatibility; its mechanical strength is low, however, so it is not suited to dynamic applications. It resists air, ozone and UV, water, polar solvents, and dilute acids — but not mineral oils, fuels, concentrated acids, alkalis, or high-pressure steam. Our material reference records FDA, USP Class VI, BfR, EC 1935/2004, and 3-A certifications for VMQ. That is an entry in our data about the material class — food or medical suitability is decided by the specific compound and batch, not by the material itself, so if you need a certificate, ask us for the documentation covering the specific item. For a specific medium, check compatibility in our chemical-resistance chart.
What do the dimensions of this O-ring mean?
The size 25 × 2.5 mm gives the inner diameter × cross section. The inner diameter must fit the groove or rod; the cross section sets the seal thickness. When replacing, do not confuse inner diameter with outer diameter. If you search by standard (AS568, ISO 3601, JIS), use our cross-reference finder.
What does 70 Shore A hardness mean?
A hardness of 70 Shore A expresses the stiffness of the rubber: a lower number (50–60) is softer and seals an uneven surface better, a higher one (80–90) better resists pressure and extrusion from the groove. Harder is therefore not simply better — it is a trade-off driven by pressure, groove clearance, and material: 70 ShA conforms to the surface better and seals well at standard pressures, while 80–90 ShA suits cases with higher pressure or a risk of abrasion and extrusion into the gap. Under high pressure, choose a harder material and possibly a back-up ring.
