Loctite 406 – instant adhesive for rubber and plastics, 20 g

Single-component, low-viscosity cyanoacrylate (ethyl cyanoacrylate) adhesive from Henkel. The manufacturer designs it primarily for plastics and elastomers where a very short fixture time is needed. It cures with moisture from the air.

Fixture time at 22 °C and 50 % relative humidity (per the manufacturer's technical data sheet):

• nitrile rubber (NBR), neoprene, ABS, PVC, phenolic, etched aluminium: under 5 s
• polycarbonate: 10–20 s
• degreased steel: 20–45 s

The bond typically reaches full strength in 24 to 72 hours, depending on gap, material and conditions.

How to bond:

1. Clean and degrease the surfaces.
2. Apply the adhesive to one surface. Don't spread it with a brush, cloth or paper.
3. Join the parts within a few seconds and align them precisely, as the adhesive fixes very quickly.
4. Hold the joint until it fixes and let it cure before loading.

For low-surface-energy plastics the manufacturer recommends Loctite 770 or 7239 primer.

Limitations: not suitable for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or for sealing chlorine or other strong oxidizers.

Storage: unopened in the original container in a dry place, ideally at 2–8 °C. Don't return used adhesive to the bottle.
